FURBY MAKES A COMEBACK THIS HOLIDAY SEASON 2012

Remember when Furby’s made a big splash across the globe nearly 14 years ago?  No child wanted to go without having one on their Christmas Santa wish list.  It was all the rage for parents to wait in line for hours at the retail stores hoping to get that special Furby.  Sometimes you were put onto a waiting list and anxiously awaited for the call to pick-up your Furby.  The craze began appearing on online selling venues and selling for marginal profits too!  Guess what?  They’re coming back this holiday season in 2012, only better!  They’re more high-tech advanced and compatible with Apple’s iPad.  They feed from the tablet, dance to music, have emotions, talk vigorously and those digital eyes are full of whimsical displays of affection!!  Coming to a store near you this Fall.

It’s time to get those older Furby siblings out of the closet and dust them off, for another round of sharing, caring and loving the little creatures.  I will be listing 5 never opened first original editions in my eBay Store – coming soon!!!  So be sure and bookmark my site Beyond The Awning eBay Store Look out world, Furby is on the loose!!!

Watch this Furby demo video!

EBAY AND VACATION TIPS

We all take short breaks from our eBay listings every now and then.  Have you often wondered how you can prevent customers from purchasing your items while you are away for extended periods of time, but unsure how to prepare for this?  Here’s some advice on a few things to ponder and prepare for your absence without taking your items/pc/printer/shipping supplies with you!  Which believe it not, I have done often, many times myself.  Also, reasons why you don’t need to end your auctions and lose listing fees or promising sales.  You don’t need to change your handling times.  You don’t need to lose your back-links from ending auctions that you have posted on other networking sites.

Don’t have an eBay store?  You do have an eBay store?  You have auctions running?  You have fixed priced auctions running?  Worried about losing your TRS (Top Rated Seller) status?  Worried about not providing confirmation tracking on your shipments based on your handling time?  Worried about customers putting items in their shopping cart and not checking out right away?

No problem, we can prevent sales from happening while we’re away very easily!!

eBay Store:

eBay stores provide vacation settings for you to customize or use their default settings.  You can follow these steps to do this.

You’ll also want to send an auto-reply message to any incoming messages while you’re away letting people know you’re unavailable and when you’ll return.

This method will send auto-reply messages to all incoming messages on eBay and the away message will be prominently displayed across the header in your eBay store.  It will also hide all your fixed auction listings from search pages and in your eBay store pages.

1.   Login to eBay, go to ‘my eBay’, click on the ‘account’ tab, click on ‘manage my store’, click on ‘store vacation settings’.

2.  Go to ‘out of office email response’, click on ‘turn on’, set your start date and your end date by clicking on the 'calendar icon', then either keep the default away message as-is or type in your own message.

3.  Go to ‘store vacation settings’, click on ‘turn on’, check the box next to ‘hide and block purchases from my fixed price listings'.  NOTE:  this doesn’t affect your auction-style listings.

4.  Optional:  check the box next to ‘display a return date', set your return date by clicking on the 'calendar icon'.

5.  Then either keep the default away message or type in your own message.

6.  Click on ‘apply’.

Non eBay Store:

This useful eBay feature comes in handy for actually both non eBay stores and eBay stores.  This is what will stop customers from purchasing your items in both an auction format and/or a fixed priced auction format.  It will also stop a customer from processing any order saved in their checkout cart.  However, it will not stop any pending uncompleted transactions that have closed with a buyer(s).

1.  Login to eBay, go to ‘my eBay’, click on ‘account’, click on ‘site preferences’, click on ‘show’ next to payment from buyers, click on ‘edit’,  eBay will ask you to login into your account again ‘login’, go to ‘checkout preference’ and uncheck the box next to ‘use checkout (recommended)’, click on 'submit'.

Hope this short tutorial has helped you solve the eBay vacation dilemma.  Just remember to complete those pending sale orders before you leave on your destination and DON’T FORGET to turn off your vacation settings and update your email settings and MOST IMPORTANTLY turn your checkout preferences back on when you arrive back to your home office!!

Have a wonderful worry free vacation folks!!

CASH FOR GOLD

Have you ever thought about turning in your gold jewelry pieces for cash?  Well I have!  I had some jewelry pieces such as necklace chains that were broken or missing clasp and rings that were bent out of shape.

I would see those newspaper ads asking people to attend conferences in various areas of the community or big signage outside of pawn shops displaying “Cash for Gold” and television infomercials.  I must admit, I was a bit leery to attend these traveling conferences or dealing with a pawn shop, because of lack of knowledge in the gold market and didn’t want to be taken for a fool, just as there are fools gold to be had!

I’m happy that I listened to my inner voice or sixth sense as some may call it.  While internet surf shopping one day, I found a legitimate company who pays for “Cash for Gold” all from the comfort of your home.  Now before I tell you the company name and website url address, let me just say, I found the link hidden on the pages of QVC.  That’s right!  QVC the home shopping network channel.  So I thought to myself, if QVC is advocating this service from an outside source, then it must be legit.

The company is located in New York City.  The website url address is www.GoldRedemption.com

It was such a simple process!  Weigh your gold (by the way, they were also accepting silver at the time too), so I threw in some pieces of Black Hills Gold jewelry.  Then all you need to do is fill out the online form with your name, mailing address and email address.  After submitting the request, a pop-up will appear to print out a postage paid USPS First Class Mail shipping label, I believe it was up to .08 ounces.  However, if your gold weighs more, just split it up and print as many shipping labels as you need.  They also insure your package for anything valued over $300.  Put your jewelry into a ziplock bag and a padded envelope, attach the shipping label and mail your package.  You can track your package(s) by typing in the confirmation tracking number at the www.usps.com website.  When the company receives your package, you will receive a confirmation email letting you know that they received your items and will respond to you within 24 hours via email when they figure the value of your items.  The process is fairly quick!  The next day, I received another email from the company telling me the value of my contents and they gave me the option to accept or reject the offer.  Note:  If you reject the offer, they will return your items at no cost to you.  I on the other hand, accepted my offer.  They in turn mailed a check out to me within 24 hours.  I got my check in the mail at the address I provided and deposited into my bank account.  Easy peasy!!

Fantastic service & exceptional values!!

USPS Email Scams

I was listening to one of my favorite Internet radio stations the other day and the topic of USPS (United States Postal Service) email scams arose from a news feed. Found this to be a quite interesting story since I exclusively use the USPS for all my shipping needs.

Here's whats up...apparently scammers are sending out email claiming to be spokespersons for the USPS. Now most of you know, phishing emails have been out for many many years and try to be cautious and observant about figuring out which ones are real and which ones are phony.

There have been several reports to the attorney generals office recently this year, claiming these type of emails are fake. Not only are they phony and look like the real deal, but if you click on any of the links inside the email, it will cause serious harm to your computers hard-drive using malware viruses trying to steal your personal information.

The USPS claims that they do not send out emails, period. They advise you to forward any suspicious USPS emails to abuse@usps.gov or simply call 1-800-ASK-USPS to report the fictitious email.

So be careful folks, the scammers are still at it trying to mess things up for the next person.

What does foursquare, eBay stores and Google have in common?

Let's talk about branding your online web presence for a few moments. The topic question is: What does foursquare, ebay stores and google have in common? Answer: They all three can be linked together to help brand your online web presence. Sounds simple, right? ...or no? Actually it takes a little time to process the full effect, but after everything is set into motion, it works real well.

This is one way that I am able to google my branding name and 9 times out of 10, it will show up on the first search page. I haven't tried other search engines, but it may be feasable.

This process works real well for people who work at their home office selling on eBay. I suppose other online auction store sites could do this as well, but I want to talk eBay today.

The first thing you want to do is to set up your business address in Google Maps. Then either have an eBay store already or open an eBay store. After that, download the foursquare mobile smartphone/tablet app from the place that you are connected to. In my case, I use android apps.

After you have done all these things. Simply check-in to foursquare while inside your home or place of residence that you used for Google Maps. Foursquare will show you being at your branding name at the address of your home office including a google map. When you do a branding search on Google, your branding name should show a foursquare link showing where you checked-in.

How cool is that!!!

Here is a test to show you what I'm talking about. Open up a new web browser using Google as a search engine, type in these three words in the url web browser bar "Beyond The Awning". After the web results appear, scroll down the page and it should show a link from foursquare (the link is shown in the reference below).

Credit Card 3 Digit Scam

QUOTE FROM ONLINE EBAY SELLER

"The new scam works like this:
Person calling says - 'This is (name), and I'm calling from
the Security and Fraud Department at VISA. My Badge number is 12460, Your card
has been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, and I'm calling to verify.
This would be on your VISA card which was issued by (name of bank).

Did you purchase an Anti-Telemarketing Device for $497.99 from a
marketing company based in Arizona ?' When you say 'No', the caller continues
with, 'Then we will be issuing a credit to your account. This is a company we
have been watching and the charges range from $297 to $497, just under the $500
purchase pattern that flags most cards Before your next statement, the credit
will be sent to (gives you your address), is that correct?' You say 'yes'.
The caller continues - 'I will be starting a Fraud Investigation. If you have any questions, you should call the 1- 800 number listed on the back of your card (1-800-VISA) and ask for Security. You will need to refer to this Control Number. The caller then gives you a 6 digit number. 'Do
you need me to read it again?'

Here's the IMPORTANT part on how the scam works -

The caller then says, 'I need to verify you are in possession of your card'. He'll ask you to 'turn your card over and look for some numbers'.
There are numbers; the first 4 are part of your card number, the last 3 are the
Security Numbers that verify you are the possessor of the card. These are the
numbers you sometimes use to make Internet purchases to prove you have the
card.

The caller will ask you to read the last 3 numbers to him. After
you tell the caller the 3 numbers, he'll say, 'That is correct, I just needed to
verify that the card has not been lost or stolen, and that you still have your
card Do you have any other questions?' After you say no, the caller then thanks
you and states, 'Don't hesitate to call back if you do', and hangs up.

You actually say very little, and they never ask for or tell you
the card number.. But after we were called on Wednesday, we called back. Within
20 minutes to ask a question. Are we were glad we did! The REAL VISA Security
Department told us it was a scam and in the last 15 minutes a new purchase of
$497.99 was charged to our card. We made a fraud report and closed the VISA
account. VISA is reissuing us a new number..

What the scammers want is the 3-digit PIN number on the back of
the card. Don't give it to them. Instead, tell them you'll call VISA or Master
Card directly for verification of their conversation.
The real VISA told us that they will never ask for anything
on the card as they already know the information since they issued the card! If
you give the scammers your 3 Digit PIN Number, you think you're receiving a
credit; however, by the time you get your statement you'll see charges for
purchases you didn't make, and by then it's almost too late and/or more
difficult to actually file a fraud report.

What makes this more remarkable is that on Thursday, I got a
call from a 'Jason Richardson of MasterCard' with a word-for-word repeat of the
VISA Scam. This time I didn't let him finish. I hung up! We filed a police
report, as instructed by VISA. The police said they are taking several of these
reports daily! They also urged us to tell everybody we know that this scam is
happening. I dealt with a similar situation this morning, with the caller
telling me that $3,097 had been charged to my account for plane tickets to Spain
, and so on through the above routine.

It appears that this Is a very active scam, and evidently
quite successful."

eBay showing "hidden prices" on listings?

Since when did eBay allow this policy to occur?? ...and what does it all mean to a seller and the consumer? If I find out more, will update...

eBay ? explanation next to "See price at checkout"

"Why don't we show the price? Sellers have the right to set their own prices independently, but some manufacturers place restrictions on how those prices may be displayed or communicated to others. Because the seller's price on this item is below the manufacturer's "minimum advertised price" the manufacturer may not allow the seller to show you the seller's lower price until you take further action, such as clicking on a drop down menu, placing the item in your cart, or proceeding to checkout. The steps required depend on the terms of the manufacturer's minimum advertised price policy. Taking these steps allows eBay to show you the seller's great price consistent with eBay's goal of always bringing consumers like you the lowest possible prices on the widest selection of products. You should know that by taking these steps, you won't be required to purchase the product. You can always simply remove the item from your cart or not proceed with checkout if you decide not to buy the item."
